Handout Ch4 LN8

I am confused about what this notation means from the Handout about the FTA. Could you explain?

Also, how important is getting to know this entire proof mathematically? Should we focus much on this?

I think it just means K is a number between 1 and n which makes the equation maximum. We can easily get Rk|c0|≥|ck| by creating this equation.
