##### How are bonus points counted?
« on: February 08, 2013, 01:26:10 AM »
The marking scheme says there's some bonus mark $B = \min(B_{class} + B_{web}, 6)$ where $B_{class}$ and $B_{web}$ are between 0 and 4. Does this mean that additional karma beyond 4 doesn't count toward bonus marks? Or does $B_{web}$ not correspond exactly to the number of karma points you have? (I don't want to "unnecessarily" deprive other people of the opportunity to be the first to post solutions to problems.)

Karma will be worth .4 of bonus points. So basically 10 karma points is a limit beyond which there will be no reward in terms of marks.

However a couple of years later some of you will ask me to write letters for graduate studies--and here your forum activity would count with no cut-off. Actually in this case the most important is an impression and karma is a semi-formal and may be not completely accurate reflection of this. When writing such letter I go to old forum to refresh my recollection, not just to look at karma points and some posts which brought no karma points could be very valuable. I also keep class records for several years for such cases.
