Textbooks for MAT244 are not available in the bookstore yet. Do we need to have the book in the first week?

Thanks for alerting us. Yes, you need textbooks ASAP to start home assignments. I just called to Bookstore and they confirmed that they don't have it.

However no need to press the panic button: if textbooks will not be available Monday we will post initial problem sets.  Also limited number of pages (i-xix+1-29) is available for free online

one needs to register and then preview textbook. Also one can "rent" a digital textbook instead of buying paper copy (which is cheaper but you can sell a paper copy and probably you need be on-line to read the book you rent).

Also one can see the same pages without registration at amazon.com and amazon.ca

Amazon and Indigo

offer rather cheap Kindle/Kobo versions but I never used these gadgets and have no idea how they display math

About 9th edition The content is not very different but there is a certain disparity in the problem sets, so using 9th edition can cause you to solve the wrong problem.

I was advised that the textbook arrived, but it costs an arm and a leg ($178 + taxes)

Could anyone confirm?

Volunteers http://forum.math.toronto.edu/index.php?topic=182.0, ahead. You can even drop into my office during office hours and do it here as I have both editions.
