##### MAT244 Math--Lectures / Question for TT2
« on: December 06, 2014, 08:10:29 PM »
TT2 #1

Solve the following initial value problem
x^3y‴−3x^2y″+6xy′−6y=−24x−1+6lnx

y(1)=−5/6 , y′(1)=−2 , y″(1)=2

This was the first question on term test two. Can someone please tell me where this type of question was covered in the textbook? Thank you in advance!

That makes sense. Thank you professor.

##### MAT244 Math--Lectures / Particular Solution Question
« on: December 06, 2014, 01:34:45 PM »
$$y^{(4)}−3y″−4y=\sin(t)+8t.$$

apparently the particular solution is $Y = At\cos(t) + Btsin(t) + Ct + D$

I know why it's $At\cos(t) + Bt\sin(t)$ , but I have no idea where the $Ct + D$ is coming from. Can someone please explain this?

I just showed the steps for finding the second eigenvector..

After that, you would proceed to plug it into the standard general equation for a repeated eigenvalue question.

I believe it's all computational. The midterm will cover chapters 2,3,4 and sections 7.5 and 7.6, as posted on the blackboard by the professor.

Hi Prof. Ivrii,

Do you mind going over the sections that we covered in chapters 1 and 2? Just so I make sure I don't study things we didn't go over!

Thanks!

Hi Prof. Ivrii,

Can you please also state the materials that might be on the test from chapters 1 and 2, like listing each section like you did for chapter 3?

Thanks!

Solve the given initial value problem. Sketch the graph of the solution and describe its behavior for increasing $t$.
\begin{equation*}
y''+ 4y'+ 4y = 0, \qquad y(-1) = 2,\quad y'(-1) = 1.
\end{equation*}
