Title: When to pick which component of the generalized eigenvector to be zero

In 7.8, the solutions often mention picking n1 = 0 or n2 = 0 or n3 = 0 for the generalized eigenvector. How do we decide which one to make zero? It seems that picking different ones yield different answers.

It happens when we have several eigenvectors with the same eigenvalue; then we get different fundamental systems, but we get different descriptions of the same solutions
